Butler University’s Honors Program provides a unique and personalized experience for students, including access to unique Honors seminar courses, exploration of academic interests in undergraduate research through the completion of a thesis, study abroad opportunities, and much more. Meet Mia, a current Honors Program student.

What’s the best part about being in the Honors Program?
The best part about being an Honors student is the opportunity to continue your education in the liberal arts outside of the classroom. I love attending seminars by guest speakers on various topics, artistic performances held by classmates, and other community events that celebrate the individuality and backgrounds of all Butler University students, especially within the Honors Program.

What unique experiences has the Honors Program provided?
Being in the Honors Program has provided me with greater access to opportunities involving undergraduate research, course offerings, and experience working in the Indianapolis community. Writing a thesis your senior year is a requirement of the Honors Program, so I am currently participating in undergraduate research related to my majors and minor that will allow me to graduate with a lasting achievement and culmination of my time here.

What’s the best Honors course you’ve taken so far?
As a young Serbian Orthodox student, I loved taking American Religious History with Dr. Lantzer and learning about the expansion and development of different religions across the United States. I also loved taking my First-Year Seminar “Call of the Wild” with Dr. Hofstetter, which focused on the divide between humans and animals and investigated related topics in books like Frankenstein, Brave New World, and of course, Call of the Wild. This course inspired me to pursue books with similar themes, so I am currently reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame as an extension to our class.

What do you want to do after graduation?
I am currently on the pre-medical track and in the process of consolidating my extracurricular activities to apply to medical school next year.
