Where are you interning and what are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am interning at L’Oréal USA in New York City as a Consumer and  Market Insights Intern. My responsibilities include fulfilling various requests for specific data-related information, as well as  meeting with consultants and stakeholders, creating training materials, and communicating with my project’s pilot users.

How does this internship relate to your major?
This internship relates to my major because it focuses on marketing analytics and using data to make informed decisions. My specific role is in market insights, so my team studies market activities and then reports on the results so our marketing team can make the best and most informed decisions for the company.

What project are you particularly proud of?
I was tasked with working on a skincare data dashboard that consolidated all the data sources used by L’Oréal. Before this dashboard, people would have to look through each source manually. This new dashboard created a user-friendly space where people could easily find what they needed. Specifically, my job was to edit the dashboard and lead the pilot program to various stakeholders, create training videos, hold feedback sessions, and communicate those results to the rest of my team. This project helped me learn more about data and how to use it within an organization, as well as how different divisions work together.

What are your career goals and how is this internship preparing you?
One of my main career goals is to work within the beauty or fashion industry. This internship has prepared me, teaching me knowledge about the beauty industry and giving my passions a space to grow. I also have the ability to network with my colleagues, who have provided me with invaluable advice on this future career path.

What advice would you give another student who may be looking for an internship?
My best advice is to leave your comfort zone. Moving to New York to work in an unfamiliar field really pushed me beyond my zone. The result has been an amazing experience filled with learning around every corner.
