Butler’s journey to this milestone began more than two years ago with a workgroup dedicated to identifying and addressing the needs of first-generation students on campus. The workgroup conducted extensive research, attended webinars, and gathered insights to better understand the challenges faced by first-generation students. These efforts culminated in the submission of an application to join the FirstGen Forward Network.
By 2023, Butler had made significant progress, including hosting the University’s first annual National First-Generation College Celebration. The event featured inspiring discussions, including a webinar sponsored by NASPA with five female CEOs who shared their experiences as first-generation students.
