Butler University is proud to announce that Dr. Frank E. Ross III, Vice President for Student Affairs, has been recognized by the NASPA Foundation as a 2025 Pillar of the Profession—one of the highest honors in the field of student affairs and higher education. This prestigious award recognizes distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to their institutions, their students, and to NASPA, the premier professional organization for student affairs administrators.

Dr. Ross’s career is defined by his unwavering commitment to student success. Throughout his tenure at Butler and in previous roles, Dr. Ross has consistently worked to enhance the student experience, create inclusive campus environments, and mentor the next generation of higher education professionals.

His award nomination was submitted by longtime colleague Dr. Jeanna Mastrodicasa from the University of Florida, supported by letters from former students and other higher education administrators. “Frank is a phenomenal leader whose service to NASPA and the broader student affairs community has left an enduring impact,” Mastrodicasa said. “He is warm, sensible, and brilliant—a true advocate for students and a trusted colleague. It has been a privilege to watch him lead and support his staff and students with grace and dedication.”

Dr. Ross has been a transformative figure at Butler University, serving as Vice President for Student Affairs since 2017. Under his leadership, Butler has expanded its student support services, deepened its commitment to holistic well-being, and strengthened its student engagement initiatives. His leadership has also shaped national conversations around student success through his roles within NASPA, including serving on the Board of Directors.

NASPA’s Pillar of the Profession Award is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated sustained professional distinction and made lasting contributions to their institutions and the student affairs field. Awardees are not only celebrated for their leadership roles within NASPA but also for the legacy they have created through extraordinary service and mentorship.

“I am humbled and deeply honored to be named a Pillar of the Profession,” said Dr. Ross. “This recognition from an organization that has profoundly influenced my professional journey holds great significance. I am sincerely grateful for the talented students and the unwavering dedication of the exceptional teams I have had the privilege of working alongside at Butler and throughout my career.”
