What led you to Butler?
People ask, “How did someone like you, from the United Kingdom, hear or even decide to go to a small university in Indiana?” The answer is soccer and family. Before my arrival, I had been speaking to the head coach for a year. What seemed like a long time flew by as I went from pondering a new life in the States to realizing Butler was the perfect place to start this new chapter. After learning about the culture of Butler and what Indianapolis has to offer, the decision became a no-brainer.
What is the best thing about being a member of the men’s soccer team?
Being on the team has allowed me to cultivate relationships that I will have for a lifetime. Most of my college experience has involved my teammates, whether exploring Indianapolis or traveling to New York for an away match. The memories I have made with the people I now call brothers are some that I will never forget.
Who on campus has inspired you the most?
It is hard to pinpoint just one person. I have leaned on various people for support over the years. My academic advisor, Courtney Hatch, has counseled me through switching majors and getting variances and is helping me graduate within three and a half years. My teammates, Joost and Nick, have inspired me to maintain and grow my Christian faith. My immigration advisor, Bobbie Gibson, has helped me keep my visa status. All these people inspire me to repay their support and trust by doing the best I can, wherever I can.
What is your favorite student activity?
I look forward to going to weekly AIA meetings. AIA is a Christian group on campus that teaches students how to balance their faith and college life while helping them grow spiritually. It’s a time to relax and escape the stress of being a student-athlete. It’s an opportunity to reflect, discuss life and our faith, and be part of a community.
What is your greatest achievement from your time at Butler?
Apart from success with the team, my greatest achievement is graduating a semester early while double majoring in Marketing and Business Technology and Analytics. I had multiple semesters taking 18+ credits, with some being in season. Despite the late nights and early mornings, it has allowed me to be in my current position.
What do you want to do upon graduation?
The simple answer is I don’t know! I’m at a critical point where deciding what to do next will greatly impact my life for the next 5–10 years. If I can play professional soccer, then I will. To have the opportunity to do it full-time would be an opportunity I relish. If I don’t play professional soccer, I would love to make a career in the United States in marketing and data analysis. A job that allows me to travel would be a huge plus.
What words or advice would you give to an incoming Butler student-athlete?
Don’t let moments pass you by. Whether you’re training, lifting, or have the opportunity to do more, do it to the best of your ability. Also, utilize the resources at your fingertips. Above all, however, enjoy the experience of being an athlete and being a college student.
