What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History Month means appreciating Black culture throughout the month and historical and influential Black figures who came before me. Appreciating Black culture is everything because Black people have paved the way for many aspects of American culture.

Where have you found community on campus?
I have found community in the Efroymson Diversity Center and the Black Student Union! These two places allow many groups of people to become connected, and they are appreciated for being safe havens for Black students.

Is there one Black history figure that interests you the most? Why?
Fannie Lou Hamer paved the way for voting rights for Black people, especially Black women, and is a legend in civil rights activism. She should be praised more often than she is for her work and the effect she has had on modern voting rights.

What resources are there for students of color on campus?
Many resources are on campus, including guidance in the Diversity Center, community in the Hub for Black Affairs and Student Engagement, and fellowship in the Black Christian Fellowship organization in the Compass Center.

How has your experience attending a PWI enabled you to operate effectively in other environments?
Because I have attended the PWI, I have learned to broaden my perspectives on topics and advocate for myself and others more than ever. My experiences have also helped me form a community filled with dependency and friendship.

What’s the best thing about being a Bulldog?
I love basketball games! Going to the games and getting hyped and involved in the crowd has been awesome. The community that Butler creates has been the best.

Which faculty member has inspired you the most and why?
Any of the staff in the Diversity Center, because they never fail to make the students feel like we belong and matter on Butler’s campus. Without them, Butler would not be the same.

What do you want to do upon graduation?
I hope to further my healthcare career by going to graduate school and working as an EMT or Medical assistant. I also really want to travel.
