Major: Accounting

Where are you interning and what are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am currently working at Dauby O’Conner & Zaleski LLC. (DOZ) as a tax intern. My job responsibilities include preparing partnership, individual, personal property tax, and corporate tax returns. I also work alongside my team members and help with any additional tasks that may come up.
How does this internship relate to your major?
I am an accounting major, so this internship has given me hands-on experience with many complex accounting concepts. I have also learned so much about business taxes in general, which I believe will give me an advantage once I start job searching after graduation.
What do you like most about your internship?
I really enjoy the company I work for. The people there are amazing, and all of them have been more than willing to help me out whenever I have questions. They also provided me with very good training that prepared me for the work I would be doing.
What project are you particularly proud of?
I am proud that by the end of my internship in April, I will have completed about 200 tax returns.
What are your career goals and how is this internship preparing you?
I plan on becoming a CPA, so this internship gives me a lot of insight into my day-to-day life as a CPA at an accounting firm. I have also been able to connect and network with other CPAs who have offered me valuable career advice.
What advice would you give another student who may be looking for an internship?
I encourage you to attend one of Butler’s career fairs. This is how I obtained my current internship. Butler’s career fairs are great resources for finding many internship opportunities with notable companies. It can initially seem a little nerve-wracking, but I promise it will be worth it.
