Where are you interning and what are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am interning with the Public Affairs team at the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA). Every day is different, but my responsibilities include assisting with events, working on design projects that help promote the airport’s brand, and supporting internal and external community engagement initiatives.

How does this internship relate to your major?
As a Strategic Communication major, this internship closely aligns with my focus on public relations, event planning, and social media marketing. Additionally, my experience with The Butler Collegian and Five Fountains, the student PR agency on campus, has prepared me by strengthening my PR strategies, creative design, and campaign planning skills.

What do you like most about your internship?
Something I love about this internship is how it blends communications and event planning. I’ve worked on projects involving media relations, branding, and community partnerships while assisting with anything the Public Affairs team needs. Whether supporting event logistics, collaborating with stakeholders, or helping with community initiatives, the variety of tasks and events keeps every day interesting. I enjoy seeing how the airport impacts the Indianapolis community.

What project are you particularly proud of?
One project that I am incredibly proud of is designing t-shirts for IAA employees to wear in the 2025 St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown. The IAA is celebrating its partnership with Aer Lingus, an Irish airline, and the new direct flight from Indianapolis to Dublin, Ireland. It was exciting to take a design concept from start to finish and see people wearing something I created!

What are your career goals and how is this internship preparing you?
I plan to pursue a career in digital marketing and public relations, but I also have a passion for event planning and would love to incorporate that into my work. This internship has been the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field by working on media relations, content creation, branding, and event coordination for an organization that plays a key role in the hospitality and tourism industry.

What advice would you give another student who may be looking for an internship?
Start looking for internships early and try to get as much experience in your field as possible. I firmly believe that internships help shape you into the person and professional you want to be. Also, be open to positions and roles that might not be what you’re looking for, as these sometimes challenge you the most. You never know who you might meet!
