For Greg Jung MBA ’98, Butler University isn’t just his alma mater—it’s the backdrop of his family’s story. His parents met as students, married shortly after graduation, and began a lifelong love story rooted in the values they learned at Butler. His father played basketball for the legendary Tony Hinkle, and his grandmother and aunt are also proud Butler graduates. Greg’s decision to include Butler in his estate plans reflects his desire to honor that legacy and invest in the University’s future—particularly through supporting Bulldog Athletics.
Why is Butler special to you?
Butler is in my blood. My parents both attended Butler and got married right after graduating. My father played basketball for Coach Tony Hinkle, which became a core part of our family identity. My grandmother and aunt also went to Butler, so it’s safe to say the university has been part of our family conversations and traditions for generations. When I walk on campus or step into Hinkle Fieldhouse, I don’t just feel nostalgia—I feel connected to something bigger than myself.
How did your Butler student experience shape your life?
Butler taught me how to think critically, lead with integrity, and pursue my goals with purpose. I gained more than a degree—I gained confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging. It was also a place where I deepened my appreciation for community and tradition, both of which still guide me personally and professionally. That Butler foundation has shaped the way I lead today.
What prompted you to think about documenting a planned gift?
I’ve been incredibly blessed in my life, and I’ve always believed in giving back to the institutions that helped shape who I am. Butler is at the top of that list. Documenting a planned gift was a way to ensure that my support could make an impact well beyond my lifetime. I also wanted to honor my parents and the generations before me who made Butler part of our family story.
Why did you choose to direct your gift to support the Butler Men’s Basketball Team?
There’s a special place in my heart for Butler Basketball. With my dad having played for Tony Hinkle, I grew up hearing stories about the program, the discipline, and the camaraderie. Supporting Men’s Basketball is my way of staying connected to that legacy. I believe strongly in what athletics teaches student-athletes—character, leadership, and resilience—and I want to help make sure future Bulldogs have those same opportunities.
Do you have any advice for someone considering a planned gift to Butler?
Think about what Butler has meant to you and your family. Planned giving isn’t just for the wealthy—it’s about making a lasting impact in a way that aligns with your values. Whether it’s a scholarship, athletics, academics, or the arts, your gift becomes part of Butler’s future. And for me, that’s incredibly rewarding. If Butler has been part of your journey, there’s no better way to pay it forward.
