First-year Exploratory major Al Morey IV has followed his dreams of becoming a race car driver since he was a kid. His love for the sport began while watching Formula 1 races with his father; now he is in his second season of professional racing. 

Morey always loved go-karting, and starting at age 14 he raced in monthly competitions and won his first championship. From there, he was picked up by Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) and began outdoor karting. 

After a season that impressed JHDD, they decided to move him to race in Formula 4 cars where he competed in the second half of the 2022 season. He continued to move up the ladder to race in the USF2000 Championship the following season. This would be his first full season as a  ‘professional race car driver’ and as a rookie he finished 11th of the 33 drivers.

For the 2024 season Morey is racing in The North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series for Topp Racing. His season consists of 14 races over six weekends between March and November. His racing partner, Cole Kleck, joined the team for the second round of races in California in May. Morey said that his favorite memory was racing together for the first time and winning both races back to back.

“I’m very thankful,” Morey says. “Ever since the first lap in the first car I thought anything that happens after this is a bonus … Seeing my parents afterwards and celebrating with them on the podium meant everything. I knew at that point it had all paid off and I felt more proud than ever about what we had accomplished that day.”

Morey chose to attend Butler University because his father, aunt, and grandmother are all Butler alumni and the campus is close to home. He hopes to pursue a business degree and use that experience to progress further in the racing industry. Al Morey raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) on September 20. With back-to-back podium finishes, Al is in third place for points.
