Sophomore
Journalism major, Strategic Communication minor

Where are you working this summer and how did you learn about the opportunities?
I have two positions. I am working at Fort Wayne’s WOWO 92.3 FM and 1190 AM and I am also at Fort Wayne’s WANE 15. I connected with WOWO at a Butler Career Fair in fall 2023 and began working there shortly after. I contacted the WANE 15 news director myself and asked if there were any summer jobs at the news station. I have big dreams for the media industry and am the type of person who will take on any and all opportunities to reach that goal. The news director liked my resume and hired me.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am the Midday News Anchor and Evening Producer for WOWO so I do broadcasting on radio from noon–2:30 PM. I also type up online stories and voice them for broadcasting, plus produce The Pat Miller program from 3:00-6:00 PM, where I control audio levels and play different sections. I am the Digital Producer for WANE 15 and type up online stories and collaborate with the multimedia team on certain stories.

How does this experience relate to your major?
I want to work in the news industry someday, so this gives me plenty of experience to prepare me towards my goal!

What do you like most about your positions?
The staff at both locations are amazing; I absolutely love working with everyone. It is busy but a thrill and everyone is accommodating and is helping me do my best. Plus growing up watching WANE 15, it is surreal to now work with the people I idolized when I was younger.

What is a project you are particularly proud of?
I am proud of all my digital stories on WANE 15  (wane.com). Most of the weekend stories are written by me. The Pat Miller Program with WOWO reaches over 60,000 people, so I am quite proud of that as well.
