Where are you interning and what are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am the Admission and Recruitment intern at Lift Academy. One of my main responsibilities is to engage with prospective students over the phone or in person. I give tours of our facility and inform prospective students about what their training will look like going into flight school and then after at Republic Airways as a commercial airline pilot.

How does this experience relate to your major?
There are a lot of moving parts to recruiting students, including getting them enrolled and properly financed in our program. But most importantly, I am selling them this program which is a direct correlation to my Marketing major. This internship allows me to use a lot of the skills I have learned the past three years at Butler.

What has surprised you the most about this experience?
In a good way—there is a lot to learn! This is my first experience with the aviation industry, and although very exciting and interesting, it can be a little overwhelming at times. It’s an ever-changing field but it has taught me how to be more adaptable, organized, and proactive in general.

What advice would you give another student who may be looking for an internship?
Be open-minded and ready to learn. One piece of advice I got early in this internship is to ‘be a sponge.’ Being attentive to what is going on around you, listening, and absorbing all the information you can will be so beneficial. Ask questions if needed, and take all of the advice you can get.
