As a Lilly Scholar, what made you pick Butler University?
Butler made me feel at home, even as early as my first campus tour. What stood out to me was that I could picture myself being a student here and becoming part of the community. Being selected as a Lilly Scholar and having the opportunity to attend Butler made me feel like all my hard work had finally paid off. Butler has truly become my home!

Have you taken part in any internships or research opportunities?
I studied abroad in Chili for 10 days this past winter. Over the course of the trip, I was able to learn a lot about the intersection between chemistry, the environment, and sociopolitical issues in the country.

I also participate in undergraduate research in Dr. Villani’s lab. My research has to do with growth pathways found in plant hormones and how those can be manipulated to either promote or inhibit growth. After I graduate from Butler, I plan to continue in biology research in graduate school.

What’s one of your favorite things about being a student at Butler?
One of my favorite things about Butler is its emphasis on community. No matter what you’re looking for in a college, Butler has so many opportunities and community-focused initiatives you can take advantage of.

Which faculty member has inspired you the most and why?
Darryl Pebbles was my favorite professor as a first-year student. He was my First-Year Seminar professor who would always make time for his students. I still see him around campus and will stop to chat with him whenever I get the chance.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus would be the greenhouse, where I work as the student manager. It’s also just a relaxing place on campus to study or do homework.

What’s your favorite student activity?
My favorite student activity is definitely Butler University’s Dance Marathon (BUDM). The entire event is so fun and it’s for such a great cause. It’s one of my favorite days of the entire year.
