Sofiia Merenych
Intended Major: Astronomy and Astrophysics

What were you involved in during high school?
I led my school’s Model United Nations Program as the Secretary General, and I created and led our school’s Rock Band Club.

How did you first hear about Butler?
Butler sent me an email through College Board during my sophomore year.

Why did you choose Butler?
I chose Butler because it chose me. Since receiving my acceptance letter (which came much earlier than expected), Butler has been nothing but a supportive and caring community. Not only did Butler fulfill my academic “musts” (liberal arts curriculum and the availability of an Astronomy related major), it has also provided me with plenty of resources and guidance with my transition to college as an international student living halfway across the world—with a special thanks to my international admission counselor, Craig VanGalder. I chose Butler because I feel truly welcomed and cared for by its community.

What do you hope to get involved with on campus?
I hope to continue pursuing my political science and artistic passions. I will likely join the Model United Nations Club, and I will probably join one of the numerous bands. I also hope to continue exploring my artisticism in the various art or drawing clubs and organizations at Butler.

What are you looking forward to most while being a student at Butler?
I’m looking forward to starting a brand new chapter of my life in a new country, with new goals, and with new people!
