What were you involved in during high school?
During high school, I was president of my high school’s National Honor Society chapter and held leadership roles as an officer in both Student Council and Key Club. I was the captain of the Women’s Track and Field team and was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, TRiO, and DECA. Through the honors program, I created my passion project, The Belonging Bag Initiative, which consisted of curating 75 duffle bags for teens in foster care. To raise money for the necessities, I created a fundraiser-relay called Everything but a Baton, which over 200 kids from my school participated in!
How did you first hear about Butler, and what made you choose to go here?
I grew up in Indiana, so Butler has always been a household mention, though I never took it seriously until I did research. I discovered more about Butler’s PA school and Pre-PA Program, and was fully drawn in by the University’s emergence around diversity, equity, and inclusion. I decided almost immediately that Butler was the perfect school for me and I couldn’t visualize myself elsewhere—I truly fell in love with the college and all that it was built on.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus?
I am looking forward to sporting events, as I love to see others in their element, and I hope to get involved in track. Track has been a huge part of my life, and I would love to implement my dedication to the sport during my time at Butler as well.
What are you looking forward to most while being a student at Butler?
I’m excited for the experiences that will draw me closer to my peers and make Butler home. I believe my experience with the Morton-Finney Diversity Scholar Program is where I will learn most about myself and others, which I’m looking forward to!
What advice would you give to other students starting their college search?
Start early and do your research. Learn more about yourself and what you want to do, and find a college that will hone your unique traits. Utilize every scholarship opportunity and beat every deadline, even the optional ones. You want to set yourself apart from others by showing your full potential as a student and as a human.
