Diego Gomez
Intended Major: Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Hometown: Beach Park, Illinois
What were you involved in during high school?
During high school, I was a member of the Environmental Club for all four years, as I am deeply passionate about the environment. I also took pictures for the yearbook as I am into photography, and I worked at Crumbl, which helped me become more responsible and confident.
How did you first hear about Butler, and what made you choose to go here?
I first heard about Butler through a college prep program. Butler stood out to me because of the small class sizes, friendly environment, and because of the support students receive. I am also excited to be an Entrepreneurship and Innovation major since I want to start a business that helps people and the planet. I feel like Butler will provide me with the support and tools I need to turn my ideas into something real.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus?
I want to join clubs that focus on helping the environment, serving others, and starting a small business. I am also excited to keep doing photography by either joining a student media organization or by working on my own projects. I’d also like to join multicultural clubs where I can meet other students with similar backgrounds and experiences—I think that would help me feel more connected and also help me find a place where I belong.
What are you looking forward to most while being a student at Butler?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people and starting fresh at Butler. I hope to find a community where I can be myself, try new things, and grow. I’m also excited to take classes that match my interests and get involved in projects that help others. I want to learn how to build something meaningful—like a business that brings change to both people and the environment—and I’m excited to make my family proud since they have always supported me.
What advice would you give to other students starting their college search?
My advice would be to look for a school that feels right for you, a place where you’ll feel supported and challenged in a good way. Ask lots of questions, and picture yourself on campus. You have worked so hard for this; it doesn’t matter if you come from a different background or face challenges—be proud of who you are and find a college that sees your potential.
