Why did you choose Butler University?
Butler was always one of my top choices when applying to colleges, but once I became a Lilly Scholar, I knew that Butler was the place I wanted to call home.
Butler’s Lilly Scholar Network really goes above and beyond. Throughout the year, the organization hosts events such as study tables, ice cream socials, and pizza parties. I have loved getting to meet other scholars on Butler’s campus and making personal connections with them. On top of that, Butler’s network is heavily involved in community service and scholars are encouraged to go to events each month that benefit the Indianapolis community. Seeing how involved the Lilly Scholars are at Butler made my decision final about choosing to become a Bulldog.
What’s your favorite part about Butler?
My favorite thing about being a student at Butler is the community. Butler students constantly look out for one another and strive to make everyone feel welcome. I also love that I can walk around campus and always see familiar faces, but also see faces I do not recognize. I am always meeting new people which adds to the community feel even more.
Butler has offered me a hands-on, individualized learning experience. Because our class sizes have an average of 22 students, our learning environment is very collaborative and engaging. In my classes, I constantly get to work with others and do projects that help enhance my learning experience. My professors are always available to help in any way they can.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
Hinkle Fieldhouse. Students have come up with the phrase ‘Hinkle magic’ to describe the stadium, and it is true. The energy that you feel on game days mixed with our school spirit always puts me in a good mood, and I love how current students and alumni all come together to cheer on our teams.
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering Butler?
My biggest piece of advice is to get out of your comfort zone. College is a brand new experience in your life and it is what you make of it. You never know who you might meet just by joining a club that sounds interesting or going up to someone on the first day of class and introducing yourself. As scary as it can be to go into a brand new place and put yourself out there, I promise that it will all be worth it and you will end up meeting some of your lifelong friends here at Butler!
