Butler students are known for their passion, drive, and fervor to explore the world.  And while all of that is part of the Butler experience, it is important to take care of yourself. One of the best ways to do that is to turn your dorm room into your oasis.

As your official mascot, I am taking it upon myself to help you in this journey. Here are my Top 5 things you should keep in your dorm to set yourself up for success!

1. Good Planner and Calendar
Alright, this one may seem boring, but trust me—it’s worth it. One of the best ways to combat stress is to stay organized. You’re going to have a lot of different due dates, meetings, and student activities to keep track of, and you’ll thank yourself if you come up with a good system to manage it all early on.

2. Mini-Fridge
Snacks are love. Snacks are life. You are a well-oiled machine, but even machines need a fuel source. And while our campus dining options are phenomenal (trust me, I know food) it is still a good idea to keep some healthy and quick options at your disposal in your room. Plus the top is the perfect spot for some extra storage.

Just remember to clean it out regularly. Nobody likes a stinky fridge.

3. Reusable Water Bottle and Cup
Hydration is key, and you want to save the turtles, right? I suggest keeping a reusable water bottle in your backpack for when you are on the go and a reusable cup for when you are in your room. You don’t want to get caught without one, so it’s nice to have options. Personally, I’m a big Tervis fan. Not only does it stay cooler longer and not sweat, but it’s also an easy way to show off some Butler Pride.

4. Fancy Bedding
There is just absolutely no better feeling after a long day than getting into bed with some fresh, comfy sheets. If I were to tell you to splurge on one thing in your dorm, it would be your sleeping arrangement. There is no replacement in this world for a good night’s rest, so make sure you are making your sleep a priority in your life.

P.S. Don’t forget to get the extra-long twin sheets!

5. Your Favorite Hobby
You HAVE to make some time for yourself during the school year. A good way to refresh yourself is by doing something that makes you happy. For me, that would be gnawing on a fresh Benebone, but for you, maybe it is knitting, playing catch, or going for a run. No matter what it is, make sure you build anything you might need for your hobby into your packing list.

Of course, you can always come see me for some stress-relieving pets as well!
