Support from my student interns has been an invaluable part of the success of the Butler Blue Live Mascot Program. For over 15 years, they have kept me and my predecessors in a state of controlled chaos—getting us where we need to go, seeing who we need to see, and giving us snacks along the way.
While I may be the creative genius behind my social media posts, my interns also help me come up with some great content ideas. I mean, I don’t have thumbs, so they post for me too. And let’s face it—my dad isn’t getting any younger and his connection to what college students think is relevant is also fading, so my interns’ input has become invaluable in our marketing process.
I do my best to set them up for success after college. While interning with me, not only do they get a daily dose of cuteness, but they are also on the front lines as brand ambassadors for the University, manage a social media audience of 200,000-plus, and learn what it’s like to work in a professional marketing environment. (There is just a bit more drool and dog hair than they might experience at another office.)
Not surprisingly, my former interns have gone on to do some incredible things. Allow me to brag on a couple:
Emma Bronsteader ’23 interned with me in 2022 when I ran for the Mascot Hall of Fame. After graduation, she headed west to begin her role with Cal Athletics Creative Services (University of California, Berkeley) as a video producer. In addition, she works for Major League Baseball as a live content creator based with the San Francisco Giants.
Grace Worcester ’25 spent two years interning with me in 2023 and 2024 and created my “Day in the Life”- style content. She took a job down the road at Lucas Oil Stadium to help out the other Indy mascot named Blue. She now works with the Colts full-time and has traveled across the globe with Blue while growing their mascot social media audience to over 10 million!
All my interns have helped shape our mascot program into what it is today, and I could not be more proud of everything they have accomplished.
