Where are you interning and what are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am doing the Disney College Program internship in Orlando, Florida, working as a cast member at Walt Disney World from August to January. While I can work all around Disney World, my home location is at Disney’s All Star Sports resort. I work at the End Zone food court serving and interacting with guests from all over the world, assisting hotel guests with questions they have about their stay, and helping run special games and activities offered to resort guests.

How does this internship relate to your major?
This internship has helped me develop my communication skills, which is a key skill for my major and future career. Working at Disney World has given me the experience to work with coworkers of all ages and cultural backgrounds, and also interact with guests from different parts of the world. I have also learned the importance of communicating on brand. Our goal is to make every interaction positive and guests feel happy.

What do you like most about your internship?
I love working for such a well known, respected, and successful company. As a college student cast member, I get to make connections with other college students from around the country and I get to live at and explore one of the most popular theme parks in the world—for free. Those are definitely some of my favorite parts of this program.

What project are you particularly proud of?
I am proud of earning my Mouster’s degree through participation in a 5-week leadership class. It was very exciting to learn about the many different aspects of leadership through the Disney approach.

What are your career goals and how is this internship preparing you?
Before doing this program, I was unsure what my future career path would be. I knew I wanted to interact with people, plan and organize events, and do so in a positive environment that I loved. Through the program, I have met many successful Disney ambassadors who started their career journeys in a similar place as me and are now working their dream jobs. It’s very encouraging.

What advice would you give another student who may be looking for an internship?
My advice would be to not let fear stand in your way. I was very hesitant to move all the way to Florida without knowing anyone but it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.
