Founder’s College at Butler University offers two-year associate degrees designed for Indianapolis-area students. Students can choose from in-demand programs in business, healthcare, and youth and community advocacy—and because Founder’s College was designed for students with limited financial resources, financial aid is expected to cover tuition, fees, books, a laptop, and even a meal plan. Students learn alongside other peers at Butler, get support from dedicated professors, and graduate ready to launch a career or continue on to a four-year degree.

Attended North Central High School

What were you involved with in high school and/or what are you most proud of from your high school career?
At the start of high school, I absolutely set myself up for failure. Life turned upside down, I was unfocused and distracted, which caused me to fail a class for the first time in my life. After that, I was barely scraping by. When I reached the first half of my junior year, I realized that the typical high school environment was not for me, so I decided to make a change by attending True North Academy at North Central. True North was what I needed to get myself back on track and it motivated me to do the work. This work paid off, and my high school journey took a complete turn. Being able to turn things around in such little time is what truly makes me proud.

How did you first hear about Founder’s College at Butler University?
My mom helped me research colleges in Indiana that have pharmacy programs. She read about Founder’s College and she passed the information on to me after she thought it would be a promising opportunity.

What made you decide to apply and enroll at Founder’s College?
After having a conversation with my admission counselor, Donneisha Baker, and visiting campus, I thought Founder’s College was the perfect fit for me. Founder’s College makes it possible for me to attend a university that would have realistically been out of reach for me. The Healthcare Studies–Clinical program provides a gateway to pharmacy, which is my ultimate goal.

What do you hope to get involved with on campus?
I would love to find an extracurricular activity that I am interested in. I avoided getting involved in high school, and now I would like to change that.

What inspired you to study your major?
I aspire to work with pharmaceuticals and/or medicine. Since I was young, I have always paid attention to medicine and supplement bottles to try to figure out what it is, how it works, and what its purpose is. My grandfather was one of the first African-American pharmacists in the city of St. Louis and helped pave the way for others. To continue his legacy would be the greatest honor.

What are you looking forward to most while being a student at Founder’s College?
Aside from earning a degree, gaining experience in the medical field, and acquiring knowledge of pharmacy, I am looking forward to a new environment. I want to make friends and gain new experiences. My high school years were not ideal, so I am going to do all that I can to turn that around while attending Founder’s College.
