Alex Brinkman
Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation double major
Business Development Leader, University Tees
Why did you declare Marketing and Entrepreneurship and Innovation as your majors?
I chose that path because I loved the courses offered and how much they challenged what I thought the “real world” would be like. So many of my courses demonstrated that the business world isn’t black and white and to truly be successful and excel post graduation you had to think strategically and be innovative. I loved that Butler challenges you to learn with real world situations and concepts.
What is your current position and how did Butler help prepare you for this role?
I’m currently a Business Development Leader at University Tees. At Butler, I was continuously challenged to step out of my comfort zone and to seek out opportunities for professional development—whether it was mock interviews with my career mentor, attending career fairs, or speaking with alumni. With all the programs and support Butler offered, I felt really confident in my abilities and it actually is what led me to apply for University Tees’ Campus Manager program my first year.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I get the opportunity to manage 15 colleges/universities across the country and support undergrad students in the Campus Manager Role. I am a little biased in sharing one of my favorite things is getting to oversee Butler at University Tees!
What are your long-term career goals?
My long-term career goals revolve around continuous growth, both personally and professionally. I aspire to become a subject matter expert in my field, taking on increasingly challenging and impactful roles. Ultimately, I aim to contribute my knowledge and experience to drive positive change within the organization and make a meaningful impact on the industry as a whole.
What advice do you have for current Butler students?
Take advantage of every opportunity Butler offers you whether it’s meeting with your career mentor more than your required amount, or going to the Career and Professional Success office to get your resume checked. Butler goes above and beyond in making sure you’re prepared for the real world but it is your responsibility to take advantage of what they offer.
