Butler’s First-Year Seminar (FYS) offers an engaging array of over 40 topics, spanning from fairy tales to professional wrestling to the pursuit of a meaningful life. Designed to stimulate clear, critical, and creative thinking, these courses provide an ideal platform for students to explore and express their ideas. Heather Lee, Assistant Director of the Center for Academic Success and Exploration (CASE), empowers students like Sara Rivera Gonzalez ’25, helping them achieve their goals. CASE offers a variety of resources, from the Exploratory Studies program to academic success workshops.

Drawn to news and politics, Emma Chamley ’25 knew Butler University’s Washington, DC Learning Semester was the perfect fit for her. Interning at the Office of U.S. Senator Richard J. Durbin, she has had the opportunity to attend briefings on the Hill, participate in exciting events, and network with professionals.

Christine Kiray, Associate Director of Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) is committed to providing mental health services. She admires students like Jack Dougher ’24 for their resilience and motivation in their academic and personal journeys.

Through Butler’s Washington, DC Learning Semester, students can live, learn, and intern in the nation’s capital. Interning for Cornerstone Government Affairs, a bipartisan consulting firm, Millie Foley ’24 is learning how fiscal policy develops.

Butler University gave Katie Freeman ’22 a newfound confidence, encouraging her to carve her own path. Becoming a business owner had never crossed her mind, but upon graduation, she co-founded Indigo Jacks, a marketing and communications company.

Turning his passion for videography into a career, Thulani Smith ’20 now works as the Lead Video Editor at Borschoff. He thanks Butler for encouraging his curiosity and allowing him to create freely.
