Butler University gave Katie Freeman ’22 a newfound confidence, encouraging her to carve her own path. Becoming a business owner had never crossed her mind, but upon graduation, she co-founded Indigo Jacks, a marketing and communications company.

Turning his passion for videography into a career, Thulani Smith ’20 now works as the Lead Video Editor at Borschoff. He thanks Butler for encouraging his curiosity and allowing him to create freely.

Tim Howard was a part of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) program at Butler University. As part of the ROTC program, Tim took elective coursework in leadership fundamentals, military skills and tactics, and completed summer training programs, preparing him for a career in the U.S. Army, the Army Reserves, or the Army National Guard.

Courtney Raab ’18 attributes her career in the medical field to Butler’s hands-on learning approach. Now working as a Neurology Resident Physician, she’s thankful for the early healthcare experience she gained through shadowing and internships.

Spencer Jaenichen ’19 says Butler’s collaborative classroom environment prepared him to continue his education at the University of Illinois College of Law. Now working as a Litigation Associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, he knows how to efficiently work on a team, welcoming others’ thoughts and advice.

After graduating from Butler, Linda Calvin ’01 was promoted into digital leadership positions at former employer Dow Chemical. Now, as the Chief Impact Officer at Reboot Representation, Linda works to double the number of Black, Latina, and Native American women graduating with computing degrees by 2025.

Working for the NCAA as the Associate Director of the Office of Legal Affairs, Luke Schultheis ’11 says practicing the ideals of “The Butler Way” has been critical in his career and daily life. He thanks Butler for providing a great foundation for his career in sports law.

As a Butler student, Allie Gardner ’11 learned to think creatively, listen carefully, and ask hard questions. Now working as a Senior Associate at Arnold & Porter, she is grateful for her well-rounded liberal arts education that created a foundation for her career in law.

Hannah Kelly ’23 says critical thinking was the most helpful skill she gained at Butler. As new tasks and challenges arise in her role at Johnson & Johnson, she is unafraid to ask questions, using the tools, skills, and resources she learned as a student.

Payton Field ’23 says Butler’s internship opportunities and Arts Administration courses helped prepare her for her career at the Cincinnati Ballet. As a Donor Relations Manager, she is fortunate to share her excitement and passion for the arts with donors and patrons.

When Kelly Schwantes ’21 decided to attend college, she loved the idea of spending four years performing on stage. Butler allowed her the freedom to pursue her love for theatre while exploring her new passion for entrepreneurship and innovation.

As a student, Leah Peavler ’19 was able to explore multiple fields and career paths. Now working at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Leah Peavler ’19 credits Butler’s well-rounded liberal arts education for her determination and desire to succeed.
